Avian Influenza in Nebraska

 

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza (HPAI) in three commercial layer flocks in Dixon County, Nebraska. 

A commercial flock in Knox County and a flock of less than 100 mixed fowl in Dixon County have had presumptive positive test results.  These flocks are considered suspect flocks at this time.

*Dixon 1 - is a commercial layer flock with 1.7 million egg laying chickens and was confirmed positive for HPAI on May 12, 2015

*Dixon 2 – is a commercial layer flock with 1.8 million egg laying chickens.  Dixon 2 is in close proximity to Dixon 1 and was confirmed positive for HPAI on May 14, 2015.

Dixon 3 - is a flock of 500,000 pullets (young hens).

Dixon 4 – is a flock of less than 100 mixed fowl and is located within the 6.2 mile radius of the other Dixon County locations.  The flock is considered a suspect flock based on a presumptive positive test result on June 2, 2015.

*Knox 1 - is a flock of 3 million hens. Knox 1 is under quarantine at this time based on a presumptive positive test on May 27, 2015.   Subsequent testing has not confirmed the presumptive positive.  This facility remains a suspect flock and will remain under quarantine and continue to undergo regular testing.
