It is the duties of the Nebraska Standards Laboratory (NSL) to maintain the traceability of Nebraska’s primary standards of mass and volume to the SI through the National Standards located at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Certifications of standards issued by the NSL, provides traceability to the SI through and unbroken chain of comparisons The NSL verifies secondary (field) standards used for the enforcement of the Nebraska Weights and Measures Act. It also provides calibration services to weights and measures service personnel and private industry dependent on certified standards used in the production of their goods and services.
The State of Nebraska requires that all registered service personnel submit their secondary standards on an annual basis. Certificated for standards issued by another NIST traceable state laboratory or a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program Laboratory (NVLAP) will be accepted in lieu of submitting the standards to the NSL.
Submitting items to the NSL for calibration.
The NSL schedules work by appointment only. Any standards that are brought to the NSL without a prior appointment will be refused. All work will be scheduled on a first-come first-served basis and as soon as possible. To request service for Mass calibrations, download the “Artifact/Work order form for Mass Calibrations”. To request service for Volume calibrations, download the “Artifact/Work order form for Volume calibrations”. The lab may require you to fill out the “NE-Biohazard form” if the equipment has been exposed to hazardous agents not limited to agricultural chemicals or pharmaceuticals. Submit the forms to agr.wam@nebraska.gov for review. The Lab will contact you with your appointment.
If an appointment cannot be kept, Contact the Laboratory at 402-471-2087 to cancel your appointment. Failure to deliver equipment or contact the Laboratory on or prior to the appointment date will result in the appointment being cancelled.
All customer work must meet the requirement set forth in NESOP-5. Failure to do so will result in rejection of the equipment. The appointment may be cancelled if the equipment cannot meet the requirements by the end of day of the appointment.
If items are to be shipped to the NSL, please make sure they arrive prior to your scheduled appointment. All items shipped in by the customer will require a Bill of Lading for return if shipped in by carrier or a return label included in the shipment. The Lab will not schedule return shipment.

As of January 1, 2026. Lab fees are set at $110.00 per hour for all Laboratory services with a minimum charge of 1 hour.
