List of Common Import Statements
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Nebraska. (CFR 9 – 86.1)
CVI must contain the physical location of the origin of the animals and the physical location of the destination of the animals in Nebraska. Purpose of movement must be included on the CVI.
All cervidae require a pre entry import permit prior to movement into Nebraska. Import Permits can be obtained by calling (402) 471-2351 or accessing the Nebraska Department of Agriculture website. (NDA Animal Imports)
The cervidae shall be identified by both official identification and visible individual identification and all identification numbers shall be recorded on the CVI.
Cervidae less than six (6) months of age that accompany their dam will be subject to the same retest requirements as their dam, but will not require any TB testing prior to importation into Nebraska.
Cervidae less than six (6) months of age that do not accompany their dam will be subject to an official cervidae test for TB in not less than one hundred twenty (120) days, but not more than three hundred sixty-five (365) days after importation into Nebraska.
Cervidae imported into Nebraska shall have moved through no more than one concentration point within the previous ninety (90) days.
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Requirements;
No Cervidae shall be imported into Nebraska without first meeting the requirements set forth in the USDA Chronic Wasting Disease Program Standards (2019), or originate from a herd that can provide documentation to the Department that such herd meets the equivalent of the USDA program standards for CWD herd surveillance.
Cervids being granted entry into the state are required to be held separate and apart from other cervids until inspected by a Department veterinarian or livestock inspector.
Tuberculosis requirements;
Cervidae of any age imported into Nebraska directly from an accredited cervid herd do not require TB testing prior to or after arrival in Nebraska.
Cervidae over six (6) months of age imported into Nebraska directly from a TB qualified or monitored herd shall be tested and found to be negative by an official tuberculin test for cervidae within ninety (90) days prior to entry into the state.
Cervidae over six (6) months of age imported into Nebraska directly from a herd which is not TB monitored, qualified, or accredited shall be segregated from other animals and subjected to two (2) official tuberculosis tests for cervidae and found to be negative. Such tests shall be at least ninety (90) days, but not more than three hundred sixty-five (365) days apart with the last test being within ninety (90) days prior to entry into the state.
